Librarian Professional Development 2017-2018: Home

Philosophy

Professional development (PD) is essential to an educator's effectiveness, especially in a rapidly changing environment. Educators take advantage of opportunities to increase knowledge and experiences that impact student achievement and model lifelong learning for students and staff. Professional development takes on many forms, from immersion into a topic for an extended period of time to a simple exchange of ideas between colleagues. Other examples of professional development include reading blog posts or books for self-study, attending conferences and workshops, mentoring, and training others.

Professional development sponsored by Library Services has an instructional purpose and is an important avenue for communicating information, exploring ideas, and facilitating networking among librarians. It is an expectation that librarians attend all scheduled professional development meetings scheduled by Library Services, which are scheduled in advance and posted on the Library Services Calendar. Activities such as inventory, book fairs, and after-school clubs, etc., need to be arranged to accommodate meeting attendance.

Librarians may enroll or unenroll for sessions in Eduphoria Workshop. Enrollment will close 48 hours in advance of sessions. After the 48 hour window, librarians must contact the session presenter or Library Services at 407-0001 to cancel enrollment.
