BLUEBONNET VOTE   Third, fourth and fifth graders will be voting for the Bluebonnet award on January 30th.  If they have read 5 or more Bluebonnet nominee books, they have earned the right to vote.  The students have the privilege of choosing their favorite to win the Texas Bluebonnet Award.  The winner will be announced in February.

FAIRY TALE RODEO    All second graders will be tested on their knowledge of 20 fairy tales - 10 traditional and 10 fractured (Texas versions).  The children have heard the tales read in their classrooms and in the library.  They have had the opportunity to read the fairy tales during their time in the classroom.  The top four students in each classroom will represent their classroom in the Fairy Tale Rodeo on February 9th.  The top 3 will be the team, the 4th student will be the alternate.  This is our first year to have a Fairy Tale Rodeo at Castle Hills.  We are very excited about the event!

BOOK FAIR    We will have a special Loved Ones' Event on Friday, February 13th from 10:00am to 2:00pm.  Tuesday, February 17th, through Thursday, February 19th, the fair will be open from 7:00am to 5:00pm.  On Friday, February 20th, we will open at 7:00am and close at 1:00pm.  Thank you for your support!

    Reading Promotion

Want to receive a ticket for a day at the theme park, Six Flags Fiesta Texas? All you need to do is read or be read to for 6 hours.  Fill out the reading log (attachment below), have your parent sign the log and return it to the library by February 27th.  All names must be submitted by March 2nd so any reading logs turned in after the 27th will not receive a ticket.  Enjoy your reading!

    Author Visit

In May, we will be having author/illustrator Jeff Mack visiting our school.  We are looking forward to his visit.

Born in Syracuse, New York, Jeff Mack has written and illustrated a long list of picture books, chapter books, and early readers, including Clueless McGee, Good News Bad News, Frog and Fly, the Hippo and Rabbit series, and Hush Little Polar Bear.

He has also illustrated many books for other authors, including James Howe's Bunnicula and Friends series and Eve Bunting's Hurry! Hurry!, one of School Library Journal’s Best Books of 2007.

At home in Easthampton, Massachusetts, he continues to write, illustrate, and visit schools and libraries to talk about his work. Visit him at
