"iRead, iLearn, I Lead"
Castle Hills Fall Reading Challenge
Be a leader and fall into a book! Read (or be read to) for 30 minutes and record the information about your book, magazine or online article on your challenge sheet. Decide which habit fits your reading material and discuss your decision with an adult. Ask the adult to initial your sheet. You need to have at least 7 entries. Return to the library by December 5th and you will get to choose a spirit stick from our library selection!
We would like to thank librarian, Ruth Pippert, for sharing the challenge with us!

Kate Klise, author of DYING TO MEET YOU, came to visit Castle Hills on November 5th. She spoke about her life and shared stories about herself, her brother and her 4 sisters! She shared how she began writing when she was very young. In the beginning, she felt she wasn't a very good speller or writer. Kate shared that she just kept trying and that every story takes many changes before she is satisfied. The students enjoyed her funny stories. She read THE MEANEST MOTHER IN THE WORLD to kindergarten, first and second grades. For the older group, she shared how she became interested in a story from her home state of Missouri. It was about a giant named Ella Kate who stood 8 feet, 4 inches tall. She researched Ella's life and wrote the book ELLA KATE, STAND STRAIGHT. We were enthralled as she read the story to us. Kate conducted writing workshops with all of our fourth grade students. Their creativity was wonderful! Both students and teachers enjoyed her visit and Kate was impressed with our students and teachers! One of our fifth graders said, "She was the best author that our school has had!" Thank you, Kate!
